How I'm Prepping to Get Google Analytics Certified

I am inspired to improve my marketing skills and get Google Analytics Certified with the with the GAIQ Exam! In my previous blog post, I shared my journey in finding out all the basics -how to get Google Analytics certified, what all is on the test, how long it is, how much it costs, where to take it, and what to do with the certification.  After taking a sneak peek at the 70 Exam questions to judge the difficulty level, I quickly determined the next best step is to start a study group and start prepping with Google’s FREE resources in GOOGLE Analytics Academy.

How to Prep for getting Google Analytics Certified

STEP 1: Sign up for an Individual account with Google Analytics Academy to get access to the study guide and other resources.

The study guide is divided up into two online courses, Google Analytics for beginners and Advanced Analytics. You need to complete both courses, as the Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ) exam draws questions from each of them. Depending on how often you pause and replay certain sections, you can expect it to take at least 8 hours to get through all the material.

TIP: Make sure you are signed into GOOGLE with the account you want the Certification associated with - an individual account or company account. That is where the actual Google Analytics certificate will live, and the name that will be displayed on it.

STEP 2: Start Training with Google Analytics Self-Guided Courses.

  • Google Analytics for Beginners covers essential features and concepts of Google Analytics — from setting up accounts and implementing tracking codes to analyzing basic reports and setting goals. The tutorial consists of 4 Units with 3-5 Lessons each, with a quiz at the end of each.

  • Advanced Google Analytics takes a deep dive into more complex concepts, features, and tools. It shows all the technical capabilities involved in tracking marketing campaigns and answering tricky SEO questions about website content performance and user experience. The tutorial consists of 4 Units with 3-6 Lessons each, with a quiz at the end of each.

Practice makes perfect! You can even get a free Google Analytics Demo Account to play around with while training.

  • Take LOTS of handwritten notes! One, it helps you remember, and two-you can refer back when taking the test or actually using Google Analytics.

  • Remember to label each page of notes with the corresponding study guide section number so that you can easily refer to it.

  • You set the deadline! Scheduled dedicated blocks of study time (typically 2-3 hours at a time). Space it out over a few days or a weeks to fully digest all the info and not get overwhelmed.

  • Create a quiet, relaxing study space. Get cozy with your favorite blanket, sip of tea, and I like a little soft music and incense stick or candle burning to set the mood.

  • Find a support group / study group! I started a private Facebook group for my fellow marketing friends who also wanted to get certified. We can answer each other’s questions, encourage each other, and even race to the finish!
